BEST FOR:

Known as “Brasilian Venice” for being cut by rivers, canals and bridges that connect one neighborhood to another, Recife is a city that brings in its streets, houses and churches, part of the history of Brazil. Due to its strategic position, Recife was an important outlet for Brazilian wealth to the Portuguese crown and was also a point for receiving goods and slaves to neighboring cities. This market attracted the attention of the Dutch who, in 1637, invaded and dominated the city for 7 years, leaving important marks in the City’s culture and architecture. Olinda was, in the early days of the country, more important than Recife and for that reason it brings in its streets cobbled streets several buildings with Portuguese influence and beautiful Baroque churches.
