First Marine National Park created in April 1983, Abrolhos represents a landmark for marine conservation in the country, a region with the greatest marine biodiversity in Brazil and the South Atlantic, the main nursery for humpback whales that migrate to Banco dos Abrolhos to have their puppies. So impressive that it caught the attention of Charles Darwin who visited the archipelago in 1832.Abrolhos is a beautiful archipelago composed of 5 islands, its clear waters of mild temperature, shipwrecks and the rich marine fauna make Parque dos Abrolhos the most important natural attraction of Costa das Baleias, located on the coast of Bahia.

WHAT TO DO:
To get to know the life of this marine treasure, you can go snorkeling, freediving up to 5 meters and also scuba diving, where you can find reef fish, corals, gogonies and huge sea turtles. In addition to 03 shipwrecks open to visitors, and an extensive area of chapeirões – unique reef formations, in the shape of large mushrooms up to 30 meters. Between December and March the waters are warmer and offer greater visibility, and from June to November, the main attraction is the observation of humpback whales that arrive at the archipelago for breeding and care for the young, and it is also possible to observe reproductive behaviors such as large groups of males disputing females for mating.Far beyond marine life, it is possible to observe several birds, such as brown boobies and frigatebirds, while walking with a guide on Siriba Island with the possibility of seeing the nests of boobies and grazinas up close.
